Resurrection!

As part of revamping the marketing strategy for Ross Design Architects, I have decided to restart my blog. I googled and joyfully found it just sitting there…waiting. I discovered it had been a decade since my last post!

The world has changed dramatically in that time, as have the issues that face the design and construction industries. What has not changed is my belief that “design is a process that tends to occur spontaneously and continuously at the fringe of consciousness. It is influenced by the Designer’s experience of the world. The everyday challenge for those in the design world is how to successfully and rationally reconcile the future form of a project with the ever-shifting context that is the real world.”

This was in my very first blog post and the primary impetus for it. So, why the pause? In a word… life! Family issues demanded more of my attention, as did the expansion of my practice. This left little time for me to explore the topics that still sprang to my mind at random moments. During that period, I’ve spent a lot of time on social media. It is a place to express ideas for sure, and Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Bluesky certainly do have their place when showing my work to the wider community (watch this space!), but I’ve discovered that it is difficult for me to really capture my more in-depth thoughts on those platforms.

In the past few years, my Atlanta-based practice has been rebranded and grown. The work has become more meaningful on a lot of levels. While residential renovation remains the primary focus, we have also received several commercial projects that are now under construction; my children have grown and do not require (or want!) my participation in their lives at the same levels. We are currently undergoing a major renovation to the house, so I get to experience the full cycle of excitement, angst, and joy as my clients!

For me, that is what this blog is - a conversation on various topics all related and tied together at the intersection of Architecture and life. My hope is that it will generate interest and engagement with those of you who read it regularly!

So, it is time. Welcome aboard, and I hope you enjoy the ride!
